It has largely been promoted as a way to let consumers reduce their consumption by watching their energy usage on an in home display (IHD) gadget. This is massively under selling the potential benefits of smart meters, and combined with various other reasons, leaves many unenthusiastic about the change. A few more adventurous suppliers, most prominently Octopus Energy, are taking advantage of smart meters to offer innovative dynamic tariffs, which particularly benefit those with electric vehicles."
